Following the golf competitions held in Ljunghusen in 2007 and Falsterbo in 2009, the Swedish Hickory Championship is now set once again to return to the Falsterbo Peninsula, south of Malmö. We are proud to announce the 18th Championship will be played at Flommen Golf Club on the 1st and 2nd of August 2015. Flommen Golf Club is the youngest member of the exquisite trio of golf clubs located on the Falsterbo Peninsula, but nevertheless one of the oldest golf clubs in the country, only surpassed in age by eighteen other clubs in Sweden.

In 2015 the club will fittingly celebrate its 80th Anniversary by hosting the Swedish Hickory Championship. Flommen was founded in January 1935 when eighteen young men banded together to make a common dream come true: to form a golf club and set up a golf course of their own. They had previously been caddies at Falsterbo Golf Club, since childhood in fact and already knew most there was to know about the game, the golf swing, the rules and the etiquette. Contrary to the privileged members of the established Falsterbo Golf Club however, the ex-caddies were local boys of humble means, earning their living as farmers, fishermen and artisans, in this little town of Falsterbo with its few hundred inhabitants. Their first golf clubs were, at best, second hand hickory sticks. But, gosh, did they know how to play!

THE COURSE

Flommen is a links course, always has been, beautifully laid out on a green expanse of sandy soil, nestling between the sand dunes of the beach and the disused railway embankment that once ran to Malmö. Only a parking lot separates the course from its neighbour Falsterbo GC. For the player, Flommen is a true test of golf, particularly when the wind is blowing - it always is! Moreover, you have to master the water hazards at every one of the 18 holes.

International top players have competed at Flommen. At the PLM Open 1988 New Zealander Frank Nobilo won his first European Tour title, Colin Montgomerie got his first top-3 spot and Vijay Singh made his European Tour debut. And Anders Forsbrand meant that Flommen is the “Best course in Sweden”.

In 2015 we welcome keen hickory players from around the world to try out our fine links during the 18th Swedish Hickory Championship.
